A peek inside the journey to become a Master Sommelier

Sommelier:
n. (se•mel•yay) A restaurant employee who orders and maintains the wines sold in the restaurant and usually has extensive knowledge about wine and food pairings.
If you haven’t already, SOMM is a must see for all wine lovers.
This documentary follows the attempts of four candidates to pass the extremely difficult examination to become a Master Sommelier. This test has one of the lowest pass rates in the world making The Court of Master Sommeliers one of the most prestigious, secretive, and exclusive organizations. It is pretty amazing the amount of information you have to know. From the regions, sub regions, districts, and villages to why certain years were good, to how to serve it and what to eat with every certain kind of wine. Watching these four men become completely obsessed, stressed and infatuated puts forth an incredibly human side of being a Sommelier.
There are now 147 professionals who have earned the title Master Sommelier in North America. Of those, 124 are men and 23 are women. Since its inception almost 40 years ago, there are 230 professionals worldwide who have received the title of Master Sommelier.
How much do you think you know about wine? SOMM will make you think again. I hope all of you enjoy this documentary as much as I did! CHEERS!
